Welcome from Chair

Sally WenzelI am delighted to welcome you to the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health web page. We hope you will virtually visit us often for updates.

Environmental health is a multidisciplinary science directed towards understanding the health implications of exposures to environmental chemicals and the mechanisms by which these chemicals impact human health and disease. These studies are critical to the health of our planet and its people, with the discipline of environmental health being more relevant now than ever.

Our department's mission is to perform transdisciplinary basic and applied research in the principles and practice of environmental health and to train the next generation of environmental health scientists and practitioners. These efforts are directed towards undergraduate and graduate education (masters, pre- and postdoctoral level), conducting research which spans molecules to populations, and includes a growing emphasis on personal exposures and health. The department collaborates closely with the Schools of Medicine and Engineering, as well as with national and global institutions. Our faculty are committed to addressing environmental justice and health disparities in a meaningful way to the communities we serve and to training community leaders who practice those principles.
