Alumni Resources

Resources for HPM Alumni

The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) has more than 1,000 distinguished alumni who hold management or policy positions in the health care sector. One third of our alumni hold top leadership positions within their organizations with titles such as president, chief executive officer, and executive director. Recent Master of Health Administration (MHA) graduates have obtained management and presidential fellowships and entry- or mid-level positions in health care settings such as hospitals, academic medical centers, physician practices, long-term care facilities, insurance plans, and consulting firms. Recent Master of Public Health (MPH) graduates have obtained positions with health departments, foundations, wellness networks, and governmental agencies and organizations.

For two out of the past three years, 100 percent of our MHA graduates were employed in professional positions within nine months of graduation. For the same time period, the rates of employment within six months of graduation, including the pursuit of advanced degrees, for our MPH graduates ranged from 75 to 100 percent.

Get Involved

We are proud of our alumni. Whether you have received an MPH, MHA, MHA/MBA, JD/MPH, MS, or PhD degree, we are pleased to consider you as a member of the HPM alumni community.

HPM alumni have supported scholarships for students; participated in courses and professional practice activities; and become involved as mentors, preceptors, and lecturers. You have inspired our students and improved our educational programs, and we thank you.

We encourage all alumni to participate, whether you can devote just an hour or several days over the course of the year. You can become involved at any level—with the department, Pitt Public Health, schools of the health sciences, or University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association. The following are suggested ways to get involved:

  • Become a mentor for an incoming student
  • Become a preceptor for a summer management residency or practicum experience
  • Become a donor to HPM
  • Become a lecturer in one of our classes
  • Become involved with our student Health Policy and Management Association group
  • Become active in the HPM Alumni Association or Pitt Public Health Alumni Association
  • Become active in recruiting prospective students

Email Dr. Kevin Broom, Vice Chair for Education, about getting involved at the department level.
