Health care financing, costs of graduate medical education, health insurance, health care for children, economics of mental health, cost of illness.
Dr. Lave is Professor of Health Economics, and served as the department chair from January 2002 until January 2010. Prior to coming to the University of Pittsburgh, she was the Director of the Office of Research at the Health Care Financing Administration, now CMS.
She received her PhD in economics from Harvard University. She was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science and the National Academy for Social Insurance and is a distinguished fellow of AcademyHealth. She is on the Technical Advisory Group for the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council. She was a commissioner on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission and its predecessor commission - the Prospective Payment Assessment Commission. She is the author of more than 177 scientific publications.
