Advancing Global One Health Partnerships with Vietnam

Suresh Kuchipudi, chair of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology (IDM), along with IDM faculty members Linda Frank and Toan Ha, recently visited key institutions in Vietnam, including Hanoi Medical University, Hanoi University of Public Health, and Vietnam National University of Agriculture. The purpose of this visit was to further build on an existing memorandum of understanding between the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health and Hanoi Medical University.

During the visit, multiple areas of synergy and opportunities for future partnerships were identified, representing a significant advancement in our ongoing efforts in Global One Health, climate and health, and pandemic preparedness initiatives. This strategic collaboration underscores our dedication to establishing strategic global partnerships to tackle pressing global health challenges.

"During our visit to Vietnam, we were deeply impressed by the remarkable research infrastructure, ongoing One Health initiatives, and the warm hospitality extended to us. The tremendous enthusiasm displayed by the students was truly inspiring," said Kuchipudi. "There is a lot to learn from their extensive experience in dealing with zoonotic disease threats like avian flu, which has recently emerged as a significant problem in the U.S. We look forward to further collaboration and knowledge exchange to address pressing global health challenges.
