Drs. Maria Mori Brooks and Marnie Bertolet study published in the New England Journal of Medicine

In a recent study called the Myocardial Ischemia and Transfusion, or MINT trial, researchers discovered that giving more blood transfusions to heart attack patients who also have anemia (a condition where the blood lacks enough healthy red blood cells) can help reduce their risk of having another heart attack or dying. This approach was found to be safe and effective. The study was led by Department of Epidemiology’s own Drs. Maria Mori Brooks and Marnie Bertolet. Their findings, which could change how doctors treat heart attack patients with anemia, were shared at the American Heart Association scientific sessions on November 11 and were simultaneously published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Congratulations to Dr. Brooks and Dr. Bertolet!
