Pitt Public Health’s 2024 graduation ceremony celebrates both undergraduate and graduate students

In a historic first, the 2024 University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health graduation ceremony included nine graduates from the school’s Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) degree program, along with more than 240 master’s and doctoral-level graduates.

Students, faculty, family and friends gathered to honor the class of 2024 in a newly refurbished Carnegie Music Hall on Friday evening, April 26. With music from the Anton DeFade Quartet and inspiring remarks from student speakers Haliyat Oshodi (BSPH ’24) and Priyanka Gupta (MHA/MBA ’24), other highlights of the event included:

  • Welcome and closing remarks from School of Public Health Dean Maureen Lichtveld, MD, MPH
  • MPH Human Genetics graduate Karmen Reynolds rendition of the National Anthem
  • An address to the graduating class from Admiral Rachel L. Levine, assistant secretary for health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
  • Remarks from Pitt’s Senior Vice Chancellor of the Health Sciences, Anantha Shekhar, MD, PhD
  • Vice Dean Jessica Burke’s presentation of teaching awards to Assistant Professor Firoz Abdoel Wahid, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (The Bernard D. Goldstein Undergraduate Public Health Teaching Award) and Associate Professor Tina Batra Hershey, Department of Health Policy and Management (The James L. Craig Excellence in Education Award)
