Center for Public Health Practice

The Center for Public Health Practice is committed to partnering with local, national and global practitioners to provide innovative public health practice experiences and policy research to improve population health for all communities.

The Center for Public Health Practice's mission is carried out through four goals:

  1. Support and promote practitioner excellence through bi-directional training between Pitt faculty and practitioners.
  2. Encourage and celebrate excellence in public health practice
  3. Promote translation of public health research findings into policy and practice
  4. Support Pitt Public Health programs with practice requirements.

Environmental Justice Summit: Reflections, Connections, and Collaborative Action in the Pittsburgh Region

May 9-11

The summit addressed environmental health disparities, including cancer, due to environmental injustices and featured keynote speaker Sacoby Wilson. Multiple panels and activities throughout the day engaged attendees with community members, community organizations and academic researchers all interested in freeing ourselves and our communities from the environmental injustices that abound in our region. The summit included a one-day academic symposium with multiple community offerings.

Bernard D. Goldstein Award in Environmental Health Disparities and Public Health

Students and postdocs: If you're working or studying in an area related to public health practice, apply for a $2,000 scholarship to help defray the cost of opportunities to enhance your training as a public health practitioner. Awarded biannually for public health practice and by CPHP. Next awarded by CPHP in 2025. 

Dean's Day, CPHP Award

Honoring the Dean's Day project best demonstrating a contribution to policy making and/or applications for improving practice. Students participating in Dean's Day can ask to be considered for this award. One award of $500 will be made each year.
